While you are correct all genders experience this, I suspect you noticed the article starts with my personal experience as a woman dating men, and I reference a support group for women. Since this is MY experience I use the language which reflects my experience and gender identity. One of the cool things about writing on Medium is I am not confined by the parameters of academic writing, I can say what I want and use my voice. There are many parts of this article that do not specify gender, and the article doesn’t claim that this only happens to women. While my audience is primarily people who identify as women, I trust that people of all genders who will benefit from my words can translate it to language that works for them as I have for me.
